CELPIP Writing Topics

CELPIP is a test of everyday Canadian English, so its writing prompts come from everyday life: your building, your job, your city, the companies you deal with, your child's school, your friends. Knowing the six topic areas lets you prepare the vocabulary and the typical requests in advance. Each area below lists the usual Task 1 situations, the usual Task 2 choices, and the words that keep coming back.

How to use the topic list

  1. For each area, write the three most likely bullet points as a mini-plan (describe, explain, request) and the two most likely survey options. You will recognise the pattern on test day.
  2. Learn the ten vocabulary items per area that you would actually use; precision counts more than range.
  3. Write one Task 1 and one Task 2 per area over two weeks with the practice prompts, and score each one. The tips page shows what to fix between attempts.

The situations above are patterns, not predictions: actual test items are confidential and change. The official free sample test on celpip.ca shows the format with one item per task.
